Retail parks big winners over bank holiday weekend

Retail parks were the big winners over the bank holiday weekend with footfall rising by 3.6% compared to last year, according to data exclusively shared with Drapers by Springboard.

For the week beginning May 4 footfall on the high street fell by 0.8% compared to last year, while footfall dropped by 0.2% in shopping centres.

Overall footfall declined by 0.3% compared to the Bank Holiday last year.

Springboard retail insights director Diane Wehrle said retail parks were the only location up against last year showing that a “greater focus on home and household purchases than fashion”. She attributed this in part to the increase in house prices.
