Retailers braced for Chinese import charges

Retailers should expect further restrictions on Chinese clothing imports once the current quotas come to an end on December 31, according to consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers. Quotas are not expected to be extended, but France and Italy may push the EU to impose duty on Chinese clothing to raise its price. PwC says autumn 08 stock is the earliest that could be affected.
