Retailers' optimism low for Black Friday

Only a third of retailers (33%) feel optimistic about Black Friday this year, a new study has found.

According to a survey of 1,001 senior decision makers in retail firms by the Royal Mail, 34% of retailers expect this Christmas to be busier than last year.

However, regarding the festive period as a whole, more than half (53%) of are optimistic about their business’ prospects.

When it comes to pre-Christmas planning, almost one in ten (8%) began immediately after Christmas 2016 ended. A quarter (24%) started to prepare over summer, whereas almost a fifth (16%) did so in autumn.
