Retailers rush into Russia

Fashion brands Hugo by Hugo Boss, DKNY Sport and Intimissimi Uomo have entered the Russian market for the first time.

The brands have opened in the country through Ingka Centres – formerly called Ikea Centres – under the group’s Mega branded shopping centres.

Hugo by Hugo Boss has opened in a 1,500 sq ft store in Moscow’s Mega Khimki mall, while DKNY Sport has opened in a 750 sq ft shop in the same cetnre.

Intimisssi Uomo, meanwhile,  has opened in a 667 sq ft store in Moscow’s Mega Belaya Dacha mall. 

The fashion labels more than 500 international retailers that operate in Russia, where Ingka Centres says 60%-80% of the fashion market consists of imported brands.

Mega malls already host a range of international fashion brands, such as Zara, Max Mara, Uniqlo and Armani. Ingka Centres is currently investing €2bn (£1.74bn) to improve the shopping centres in its Mega portfolio.

Svetlana Burzyantseva, head of leasing of Ingka Centres in Russia, said: “We are delighted to welcome Carter’s/Osh Kosh B’gosh, Hugo by Hugo Boss, DKNY Sport and Intimissimi Uomo to our malls.

“We believe they chose Mega because they appreciate our retail destinations are becoming stimulating places for our 246 million annual visitors in a more omni-channel world. We are upgrading our shopping centres to become meeting places for recreation, leisure and entertainment.”
