Retailers set to cash in on Mother's Day gifts

Doting children will spend £80 million on fashion for Mothering Sunday presents this year, according to the British Retail Consortium. The association forecasts that almost 3.5 million mothers will receive clothing as a gift. BRC director general Kevin Hawkins said the day was an increasingly important trading event for retailers and predicted that this year's event would drum up a total of £1.5 billion in sales, up 6% on last year.
