Department store group Hoopers has kicked off a major overhaul at its Carlisle store, involving a six-figure investment and including the menswear department.
The ground floor menswear area will be extended and interior walls removed to create a more spacious feel. The new-look department, which is due to be unveiled in September, will be based on a colour scheme of "cool tones with dramatic backdrops".
The department sells brands including Gant, Polo Ralph Lauren, Duchamp, Eton and DKNY.
Managing director Anne Horton said: "We bought Bulloughs of Carlisle's store last year and we've spent a lot of time deciding how to take it forward. We want a more contemporary look.
"The building is part of the historic quarter of the town, so we wanted to do something that would create the right balance between its heritage and a more modern look."
The store will introduce a new cookshop and linen department on the second floor, along with a restaurant to open by the end of July.
Design company Raylian is creating the new store design, which will also be extended to include a boutique-style cosmetics and fragrance area.
Hoopers has eight shops, including three standalone menswear stores.
