Review goes into liquidation

Staffordshire-based designer retailer Review Fine Outfitters has gone into liquidation. The retailer’s sole director was Carl Birchall and the business traded from two stores, in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Hanley.
Both shops have closed and business adviser Baker Tilly is handling the liquidation. Birchall could not be contacted as Drapers went to press. Baker Tilly confirmed it was the liquidator, but declined to comment further.

The news of Review’s demise generated much debate on a local website. An anonymous retailer from the area wrote on the internet comments page of local newspaper The Sentinel: “I have my own designer outlet and find it very difficult to compete with eBay and other online outlets. The web, and the huge rise in fake designer goods, is killing high street shops.”

Trevor Miles, vice-president of the Chamber of Trade in Newcastle-under-Lyme, added: “It is always a problem when a business like that goes because they are individual traders.”
