River Island is expanding its presence in south-east Asia, entering Hong Kong and Malaysia for the first time, through a partnership with local etailer Zalora.
The deal will see River Island’s men’s and women’s collections for autumn 13 made available through a shop-in-shop on Zalora’s site for consumers in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Although River Island previously had a franchise store in Singapore, which it closed in 2011, the move marks its debut in the latter two countries.
Zalora shoppers will be able to subscribe to the exclusive River Island VIP club and receive offers and targeted promotions.
Josie Roscop, River Island’s marketing director, said: “E-tailers like Zalora are making it easier to reach out to a region of over 500 million fashion shoppers without costly investment in retail space. We want to deliver the latest trends through the River Island experience, and we need a reliable process to facilitate this swiftly. We strongly believe in Zalora’s capability to be that avenue for us, and that’s why we’re back.”
