River Island family land £30m payout

The Lewis family behind River Island has been rewarded with a £30m dividend after the retailer continued to enjoy a strong period of trading.

Pre-tax profit at the fashion chain increased 69.4% to £149.1m for the year to December 27, 2014, and turnover climbed 10.4% to £925m.

The £30m dividend, paid from a subsidiary of the family’s holding company, includes founder Bernard Lewis, his son and chairman Clive, and nephew Ben who is the chief executive, according to the Sunday Times.

Last week it emerged River Island paid a £100m dividend but a spokesperson said the amount was reinvested into the business rather than given to the family.
