Tahir’s recruitment comes as part of ongoing plans to expand the menswear category and grow market share.

He was head of global menswear at Tesco’s F&F since March 2014 and was previously men’s buying controller at Primark from January 2011 to March 2014.

He has also held been senior buyer at TK Maxx and Burton.

“I’m very much looking forward to implementing the new global strategy and harnessing the true potential of River Island’s menswear, cementing our position as designer of the high street,” said Tahir.

Fiona Firth joined Mr Porter as menswear buying director in March this year.

  • Interesting - a retailer that pertains to be 'designer of the high street' taking direction from a man from the 'pile 'em high and sell them cheap' supermarket end of the market.
Will be fascinating to see how this one pans out, but my gut feeling is lower prices all round......suppliers beware!

  • Your gut feeling is as worthless as your opinion. Anyone who has worked with and knows this guy will know his fashion credentials stack up totally and have been gained from a long career at different levels of the industry. A fantastic hire from RI and I wish them and Mr Tahir every success.
