Lingerie indie Sadie the Bra Lady has had an estimated £10,000 of stock stolen by thieves who got in by smashing a hole in the roof of its Consett store.
Nearly 300 bras, priced at up to £50 each, were taken in the night-time raid in the County Durham town, as well as some 100 pairs of knickers.
Owner Sadie Ayton has five lingerie stores in the Northeast. She said: “They took off roof tiles, kicked in the insulation then came down the stairs. I have security shutters but they aren’t much use if someone goes in the roof.”
The burglars targeted top brands and best-selling sizes. Ayton, whose merchandise was not insured, said: “They took £5,000 worth of Fauve and stole all the 32 to 34 DDs, Es
and Fs in Fantasie, Eveden, Gossard and Freya.”
Other stock was damaged by rain leaking through the hole in the roof.
Police have urged shop owners to review their security, but admitted it was difficult to protect a roof.
