Sainsbury's clothing boss moves up in management reshuffle

The director of Sainsbury’s clothing arm Tu, James Brown, has been promoted to take on the full non-food remit as part of a wider shake-up of the management board ahead of chief executive Justin King’s departure in July.

Brown will retain responsibility for clothing within his new role as director of non-food trading. He will report into incoming chief executive Mike Coupe.

His promotion comes amid a flurry of changes on the team. Roger Burnley, currently managing director of general merchandise, clothing and logistics, has also been promoted to retail and operations director.

Helen Buck, currently retail director, becomes business development director. Robbie Feather, currently business unit director for general merchandise and entertainment, takes on the role of director of online.

King said: “Mike Coupe and I are working closely to ensure a strong transition as we move towards my departure on July 9.

“A key part of our success over the last 10 years has been the strength of our leadership team at all levels of our business, and our focus on developing talent from within, ensuring we have a great blend of innovative thinking and experience. The changes we’re announcing today will strengthen an already strong leadership team, and allow us to achieve even greater success in the future.”
