Sainsbury’s clothing brand Tu will debut an occasionwear range for women next year, Drapers has learned.
It is understood that Tu will launch the collection in April for spring 18. It is expected to be rolled out across 300 stores as well as online.
It is not clear how many pieces will be in the collection. Tu declined to comment on the new range.
Tu has recently embarked on an expansion drive, as part of the supermarket’s strategy to develop its non-food business.
Last year it launched its more upmarket womenswear sub-brand Tu Premium, which features daywear, outerwear and footwear made with higher-quality fabrics and styling than its core Tu collections.
Earlier this month, it unveiled its first Tu Premium range for men, as well as its first full range of men’s formalwear, for the autumn season.
Sales of clothing at Sainsbury’s and Argos outperformed the market after growing by more than 4% in the year to 11 March, with eight million customers buying Tu clothing, according to the supermarket’s latest annual figures.
