Sainsbury's to trial more convenient supermarket formats

Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe has pledged to “reinvent” the supermarket in an attempt to fight back against falling sales.

In an interview with the Telegraph, Coupe said he is drawing up plans for six new-format supermarket trials, to launch later this year.

The plans and locations for the new supermarkets have not been revealed, but the aim is to make the stores more convenient. Products being bought for use today or tomorrow will be moved to the front of the store, while longer-term purchases will be further in.
