Sainsbury's wins Christmas YouTube battle

Sainsbury’s has won the battle for the most-watched Christmas TV ad from a retailer on YouTube this year.

“Mog the Cat” had 26.4 million views on YouTube as of this morning, while John Lewis’s ”Man on the Moon” came a close second with just over 23 million views.

House of Fraser’s ”Your Rules” campaign had about 350,000 YouTube views, while Debenhams’ ”Found It” had 54,000.

Meanwhile, Mulberry has escaped a ban over its controversial #MulberryMiracle Christmas ad, in which a handbag plays the role of Jesus in the nativity scene.

The Advertising Standards Authority received 42 complaints about the ad, which has been viewed just over 1 million times on YouTube, but ruled it was “unlikely to cause serious or widespread offence” and more likely to be seen as a “humorous reference to consumerism”.
