Footwear chain Schuh has posted a 5.3% increase in sales to £280.9m for the year to the end of January, as pre-tax profits also jumped 9.3% to £16.6m.
Kids’ footwear was a big focus for the business this year as it opened two new standalone stores at Westfield Stratford City and Bluewater, Kent.
Four stores in Romford, Aberdeen, Chelmsford and Essen in Germany were converted to hybrid stores featuring both the kids’ and adult offers.
One adult Schuh store opened in Luton during the year.
The business continued to swap conventional cash desks for free-standing kiosks and handheld payment machines to speed up the average customer journey.
Since January, the retailer has opened a third store on London’s Oxford Street.
David Gillan-Reid, finance and HR director, said: “We had a more challenging start to the year, but trade picked up over Christmas and we finished the year in a good position. A big focus for us has always been to deliver a great customer experience, whether in store or online.”
Schuh won Multiple Retailer of the Year 2017 at the Drapers Footwear Awards in May.
