Sales at Express Gifts grow 11%

Sales at Express Gifts, part of online value retailer Findel, grew by 11% for the 16 week period to 20 July, compared to the previous year.

The company said its strong sales were driven by new customer recruitment and that its performance provides a strong platform ahead of peak trading later this year.

Express Gifts, Findel’s largest business, was historically catalogue-based, but now more than 70% of customers shop online, up from 68% at the year end. The firm, which trades as Studio and Ace, offers a diverse range of products including leisurwear, nursery products, homeware, gifts and electricals. It operates from a 500,000 sq ft distribution centre in Manchester.

Findel’s overall sales, which include its education business, grew by 8.5% over the same period.

Sports Direct boss Mike Ashley owns a 29.9% stake in the business.
