Sales increase at The Original Factory Shop

The Original Factory Shop saw like-for-like sales rise 4.7% for the nine weeks to January 13.

Total sales grew 20.7% over the period, pleasing new owners Duke Street Capital who backed a secondary buyout of the discount chain in December.

Chief executive George Foster said: "Sales over Christmas have been very strong and reflect the real niche that The Original Factory Shop has carved out for itself in the value retail market. As we enter 2008 we will be looking to accelerate our expansion plans as we take advantage of our healthy property pipeline."

The Original Factory Shop has 84 stores across the UK and plans to open between 15 and 20 shops each year. Its 85th shop will open in Whitchurch in Shropshire at the end of January.
