Sales rise 7.1% at John Lewis

John Lewis reported a 7.1% increase in sales year-on-year for the week to January 23 to £73.8m, as temperatures across the UK dropped.

Online sales jumped 22.3% year-on-year for the week.

Fashion sales for the week were up 2% with thermals and mittens popular with customers, according to the department store group.

Director of online trade at John Lewis Mark Felix said womenswear was a “star performer”.

He added: “As we trade the final week of our financial year our customers are already looking ahead, with online data showing us that they are already searching for Easter.”
