Sales rise expected at Primark

Sales at Primark for the 52 weeks to 15 September 2018 are expected to be up 5.5% year on year on a constant-currency basis.

Parent company ABF said in a pre-close trading statement that UK full-year sales are expected to be ahead by 6%, although overall like-for-like sales slipped by 2% as a result of “unseasonable weather conditions”.

The value retailer plans to add more than 1m sq ft of additional selling space over the next financial year. This will include opening 14 new stores and a move to new premises at Birmingham Pavilions. The new Birmingham store will become the largest in Primark’s estate at 160,000 sq ft. Primark will also open its first store in Slovenia, in the capital Ljubljana, in 2019.
