Walters left in June after 24 years of teaching, 18 years of which she was course leader.

Gresty has taught at Central Saint Martins since 1998, and most recently was pathway leader of fashion design with knitwear. Before teaching, she trained as a designer at Brighton College of Art.

She said: “Willie has established and sustained an amazingly successful course, attracting remarkably talented and vibrant students from all over the world and has built a committed team of staff.”

Graduates of the BA Fashion course include Stella McCartney and Ricardo Tisci. Gresty has previously taught designers including Molly Goddard, Phoebe English and Craig Lawrence.

Last month, Drapers spoke to Walters about the highs and lows of her time at Central Saint Martins, and hear her tips for designers to watch.
