Schuh one of top workplaces in the UK

Footwear retailer Schuh has been named one of the best places to work in the UK, the only fashion or footwear retailer to make the top 25 of jobs website Glassdoor’s list this year.

Schuh was ranked eighth in Glassdoor’s annual Best Places to Work UK list. The list is based on a survey of employee satisfaction across companies with more than 1,000 employees.

Schuh was awarded 4.1 out of five for its “excellent staff discount”, offering 40% off full-price items to staff that have worked there for a year.

Workers also described its £7.15 hourly wage as “generous”. The national minimum wage for 18- to 20-year-olds is currently £5.30 per hour, rising to £6.70 for over-21s.

John Lewis was named the second best company to work for in 2014, but dropped to 16th place this year.

Glassdoor asked workers to rate how satisfied they were with their job overall, how well they felt their chief executive led the company and whether they would recommend their employer to a friend, as well as workplace attributes including career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values and work-life balance.
