Schuh opens first German store

Schuh has opened its first store outside of the UK and Ireland, in the east German city of Oberhausen.

The 2,000 sq ft shop in the Centro Oberhausen shopping mall marks Schuh’s first push into mainland Europe. It has yet to reveal details of its wider international expansion plans.

The store includes a Schuh Kids ‘shop-in-shop’.

Phil Whittle, head of store operations for Schuh told Drapers: “We view Germany as having huge future potential for schuh given the size and relative affluence of the market. We are working hard on other German property deals right now and expect that this will be the first of many stores for schuh in the country.”

Schuh is also expanding in the UK, with a Schuh Kids opening in Brighton next month and a Schuh in York in June. It currently has 108 stores in the UK and Ireland.
