Discount chain TJ Hughes is launching four new stores in Scotland this autumn, creating 240 jobs.
The retailer currently only has one store in Scotland, in Glasgow. The shop in Livingston opened last Thursday, and the others will be in East Kilbride, Dundee and Clydebank.
TJ Hughes announced earlier this year that it is partnering with a range of new concessions, including French Connection and Regatta.
CEO Anil Juneja said: “TJ Hughes is one of the few high street success stories as, sadly, we are seeing too many familiar faces disappearing from our town centres, but where there is growth is the discount and value sector, which is our model. Primark, Aldi etc are all showing retailers shoppers still want a physical experience, and we have a winning formula by offering big brands with up to 70% discount.
“We now have 21 stores and are opening a further five stores this year, including two former Toys R Us stores, where we will have a huge home offer as well as the fashion and leisure offer we’re famous for.”
TJ Hughes was established in Liverpool in 1912.
