Young fashion value retailer Select delivered a double digit sales surge over Christmas as it plots 40 new stores for 2013.
Like-for-like sales grew 12.5% in December compared with last year as sales jumped 28.6% in December compared with November.
The retailer said it plans to open 40 stores in “prime locations” including Oxford Street in the coming year creating 400 new retail jobs.
Online sales in the six weeks leading up to Christmas shot up by 62% compared with the same period last year.
Chief executive Cafer Mahiroglu said: “Select has emerged as an ongoing success story in the battered high street retail market. We’re attacking with a combination of the right product at the right price and a hands-on, ambitious approach from the top-down.
“As evidence suggests, in recessionary times there is sustained, even growing demand for a viable alternative on the high street for trend-driven, affordable fashion product.”
