Selfridges banks 18% festive sales rise

Selfridges has reported a sales surge of more than 18% during December, bucking the trend of lacklustre Christmas sales.

The retailer’s managing director Anne Pitcher told The Sunday Times it had been a “full-price Christmas” with no discounting across its stores in London, Manchester and Birmingham, and its website.

Its sales are thought to be have been bolstered by the weakened sterling, which has made Britain attractive to overseas shoppers, the newspaper said.
