Selfridges Group has poached Chanel’s business development director Chris May to fill the new role of group business development director.

May will report to managing director Paul Kelly and will start on December 1.

He will have responsibility for business development across the group, which comprises department stores Selfridges in the UK, Brown Thomas in Ireland, Holt Renfrew in Canada and de Bijenkorf in the Netherlands.

Last week, Selfridges announced it had made a record £150m operating profit in 2013, a 12.3% increase on the year before.
