Selfridges owner tops Sunday Times retail rich list

The owners of Selfridges and Primark, the Weston family, have claimed the top retail spot on this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

The Westons, Ireland’s richest family, have a net worth of £10.5bn thanks to their retail portfolio, which also includes London department store Fortnum & Mason, Ireland’s biggest department store Arnotts, and department store chain Brown Thomas. They came ninth overall on the wider Rich List.

Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green and Lady Tina Green came fifth on the list of richest retailers with a net worth of £2bn. Mahmud Kamani and family, the owner of online fashion sites Boohoo, BoohooMan and PrettyLittleThing, came ninth and have a net worth of £1bn, which has grown by £258m over the past 12 months.

Retail power couple Chrissie Rucker and Nick Wheeler, Asos founder Nick Robertson, and Missguided founder Nitin Passi also made the list. White Company founder Rucker and Charles Tyrwhitt founder Wheeler have a combined net worth of £452m, up by £25m over the last year. Robertson is worth £372m, while Passi is worth £250m, according to the list.

New entries this year included Tarak Ramzan and family, the owners of fast fashion chain Quiz, who have a net worth of £166m.
