Serious Fraud Office may probe former BHS owner Chappell

The Serious Fraud Office is reported to be investigating the dealings between BHS former owner Dominic Chappell and his business partner Paul Sutton in the period before Chappell’s Retail Acquisitions bought the high street chain for £1.

The Sunday Times said it has seen documents that suggests Sutton’s girlfriend paid for the creation of Swiss Rock, Chappell’s firm which received £1.5m from BHS.

A source told the newspaper that the SFO is trying to establish whether there are grounds to open a criminal investigation.

The SFO declined to comment.
