Shop Direct buying director exits in restructure

Shop Direct Group’s fashion buying director Martin Ashby has left the business following a management restructure at its head office in Speke, Liverpool.

Ashby will not be replaced but the retailer is understood to be planning to appoint a new position, buying and merchandising operations director, which will report directly to group trading director David Inglis.

A spokeswoman declined to comment on the new position, but said a number of new roles will be created, with some changes in reporting lines and responsibilities, as part of the operational review.

The mail order company is slashing up to 100 senior management roles at the business. A spokeswoman for the group declined to rule out further redundancies: "We will continue to adapt the business model to meet new requirements.

Earlier this week, group chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said: "We recognise that this is a difficult time for those members of our team impacted by the review but are confident we now have the right management structure in place to continue our growth."

He said the restructure was part of plans to focus on internet sales rather than traditional mail order sales.
