Shop Direct to roll out contextual sizing technology

Shop Direct is rolling out contextual sizing technology that allows shoppers to see how big an accessory is in relation to someone of their height and body shape or compare it to a similar item they already own, in a bid to boost conversion.

The platform, developed by technology company Tangiblee, helps shoppers get an accurate perspective of goods, including handbags and furniture, before they buy them.

A test carried out by the etailer on certain products on, and, last October showed the technology boosted sales by 10.3% and conversion rates by 7.2%.

Shop Direct will now extend the platform to include jewellery and watches. 

Jonathan Wall, group ecommerce director at Shop Direct, said: “Tangiblee’s technology is helping us do that; giving our customer confidence in the actual size of items before she buys. Our tests indicate the feature can support sales growth.”
