Shoppers misled by Black Friday ’deals’, report claims

Around half of the items promoted in Black Friday deals last year were actually cheaper before the event, according to research by consumer group Which?.

Which? tracked 178 deals on 20 popular items, mainly gadgets and appliances, every day for three months before and two months after Black Friday last year. It found only 90 out of the 178 deals were cheapest on Black Friday.

Just 8% of Black Friday offers were exclusive to the day, the research shows.

Pete Moorey, head of campaigns at Which?, said: “Shoppers might be surprised to learn that only half of Black Friday deals are actually cheapest on Black Friday.”

He warned shoppers to ”do your research”, adding that “some ‘deals’ may not be all they’re cracked up to be”.
