Sir Philip Green named International Retailer of the Year

Arcadia owner Sir Philip Green was in New York yesterday to pick up the International Retailer of the Year award from the US National Retail Federation.

Matthew Shay, president and chief executive of the retail trade association, praised Green for “breaking away from the mould and pushing his company to new heights.”

His Arcadia group comprises BHS, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Wallis and Topshop – but only the latter has launched in the US so far.

Green plans to double Topshop’s sales in the next five years through a programme of international expansion, set to include “another four or five [Topshop] stores” in the US before the end of the year.
