Sir Philip Green recognised at Retail Week awards

Arcadia boss Sir Philip Green received a standing ovation as he received Outstanding Contribution to Retail at last night’s Oracle Retail Week Awards – including from surprise guest Simon Cowell.

The music mogul paid tribute to his long-standing friend for his business prowess, as did Sky News journalist Jeff Randall , who gave a speech detailing Green’s rise through the industry.

John Lewis picked up the top gong of the night, Retailer of the Year, and was also recognised as best multichannel retailer of the year.

Asos won best Pure Play Etailer of the Year, while Zara was awarded International Retailer of the Year.

Debenhams was recognised for its success overseas, winning International Growth Initiative of the Year, as well as its Endless Aisle scheme, which scooped the Retail Technology Initiative of the Year award.

Marks & Spencer won Corporate Social Responsibility of the Year for its Shwopping campaign.
