Smyth & Gibson puts its shirt on wholesale launch

Shirtmaker Smyth & Gibson will re-enter the wholesale market next year, following a £500,000 investment into its manufacturing site in Derry, Northern Ireland. The investment has boosted production by about 70%, enabling production of 1,000 shirts a week. The firm aims to have at least five wholesale accounts in the UK and Republic of Ireland in 2008, plus five in Europe. 'The company is secure enough to take the wholesale risk,' said founder Richard Gibson. Established more than 15 years ago, Smyth & Gibson has one standalone store, on Bedford Street in Belfast.
