Sock Shop to re-open stores

Sock Shop is to open its first store since it pulled out of bricks-and-mortar retailing in 2006.

The 400 sq ft shop will open in Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre next month, stocking more than 50 brands including Pringle and Elle. It will feature wall-to-ceiling display units.

Sock Shop was founded in 1983 and had 52 stores across the UK. In 2006 sock distributors The Ruia Group bought the Sock Shop website but not the retail stores, which were subsequently closed. It has since been trading online only through Sockshop.co.uk.

The owners have now decided to relaunch the brand onto the high street.

Amit Ruia, managing director of Sock Shop, said: “It was always our strategy to relaunch into retail when the time was right, so this is a significant date in the Ruia family business.”
