Sonia Rykiel names new artistic director

French fashion label Sonia Rykiel has appointed former Miu Miu and Yves Saint Laurent designer Geraldo da Conceicao as artistic director.

Conceicao, who will take up the new role next month, is currently womenswear design director at Louis Vuitton. He succeeds April Crichton who has been in the role for just a year.

Autumn 13 will be the debut collection from Conceicao, who has been tasked with re-launching the women’s ready to wear and accessories collections

Jean-Marc Loubier, chairman at Rykiel and president of Fung Brands, said he was “very pleased” to welcome the designer to the brand. “He has the talent and experience to write a new chapter in the history of the fashion house,” he added.

In February this year Sonia Rykiel was sold to Hong Kong based investment company Fung Brands, leaving the Rykiel family with just a 20% stake.

Loubier added that Conceicao’s arrival “confirms the quality of Fung Brands’ commitment to Sonia Rykiel”.
