Sophia Webster hits out at copycat design

British accessories label Sophia Webster has hit out at American retailer Nasty Girl, claiming it has copied one of her handbag designs.

The designer posted a photo of Nasty Gal’s SRSLY WTF Bag on Instagram with the caption “Nice Try @NastyGal #COPYCAT #SpeechBubbleClutch #SWHQ”.

Webster’s monochrome speech bubble shaped clutch bags, retailing for $500 (£304), are made from calfskin leather and feature slogans including Blah Blah Blah. The Nasty Gal version, which has the same shape and bears the slogan WTF, is made using synthetic materials and costs $48 (£29).

Sophia Webster, who was named Best Emerging Accessories Designer at the 2013 British Fashion Awards could not be reached for comment.

In December Littlewoods was sued by an Irish etailer for allegedly copying a design on a Christmas jumper featuring a snowman and Christmas trees.
