Spanx names Nike's Jan Singer as new CEO

US underwear firm Spanx has hired Nike’s head of apparel Jan Singer as chief executive.

Singer is expected to join in early July and will report to Spanx founder and owner Sara Blakely. Interim CEO Gregg Ribatt will continue to serve on the company’s board of advisors. Ribbatt stepped in to the interim role following CEO Laurie Ann Goldman’s departure in February.

Singer held various senior leadership roles at Nike including corporate vice president of global apparel and corporate vice president of global footwear. Prior to that, she was vice president and general manager of Reebok’s women’s business and had marketing and global communications roles for Chanel, Calvin Klein, and Prada.

Blakely said that “Singer’s role in helping to lead and innovate at premium, global brands across the apparel, footwear and beauty industries, combined with her deep understanding of the consumer” influenced the decision.

Spanx is sold in more than 50 countries and has recently moved into swimwear, activewear, jeans and men’s underwear.
