Sporting Pro kicks off with 10 stores

Matalan’s new fascia Sporting Pro has unveiled its first 10 locations in the UK.

The first of the stores will open in Walsall in the West Midlands, Coleraine in Derry and Harlow in Essex before the end of October.

A further seven stores will open their doors within the next two months in Colchester, Leeds, Knaresborough, Stockton, Sheffield, Stockport and Wakefield. Dates are yet to be announced.

Head of Sporting Pro and former JJB chief executive Tom Knight said: “Our first stores are near completion and we’re looking forward to seeing the public’s reaction. A tremendous amount of planning and imagination has gone into creating sport stores that offer shoppers something different.”

He added: “Customers can have individual gait analysis assessments, which look at how a person moves, conducted by in-store specialists on treadmills. These help to pinpoint any posture or movement related problems. Our fitness experts will be on hand to advise customers how to move more effectively and fully benefit from their exercise regimes.”

In total 14 Sporting Pro stores will open this autumn, creating 370 jobs.

  • This could well be an innovation in the Sports Retail World.........a sportswear store that sells, well actually sells sportswear. JD take note.
