Sports Direct board to gain employee representative

Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley has moved to install an employee representative on the retailer’s board, following the review into working practices published today.

The board has agreed to the recommendation “in order to give workers a voice at the highest level and to help ensure that all staff are treated with dignity and respect”.

The review, which was carried out by Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC), one of the firm’s legal advisers, recommends that the employment agencies used by Sports Direct suspend their six strikes policies with immediate effect, among other things.

Sports Direct will hold its AGM tomorrow at Shirebrook.
