Sports Direct commits to external review of its board

Sports Direct has committed to an external evaluation of its board later this year, after founder Mike Ashley admitted the company had “outgrown him” at a parliamentary hearing earlier this year.

The company also confirmed that an independent report on its working practices by law firm RPC will be published early next month, ahead of the Sports Direct’s annual general meeting on 7 September.

It comes as the firm revealed earlier this week it will pay thousands of warehouse workers back pay totalling around £1m for failing to pay the national minimum wage.
