Sports Direct confirms Iconix and Dick's Sporting Goods investments

Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct has confirmed that it now holds an 11.2% stake in Iconix Brand Group and a 2.3% stake in Dick’s Sporting Goods.

It holds the stakes as indirect economic interests.

“The main rationale for these stakes is to allow Sports Direct to hopefully build a relationship and develop commercial partnerships with the relevant parties,” said the company. “They also help the company to build relationships with key suppliers and brands.”

As reported by Drapers last week, US brand management company Iconix owns and markets brands including Umbro, Lee Cooper, Badgely Mischka and Ed Hardy.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has 645 stores in the US selling sportswear, footwear and sports equipment. It also owns and operates Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, True Runner and Chelsea Collective specialist stores.
