Sports Direct 'considers joint bid' for US rival Sports Authority

Sports Direct and US retailer Modell’s Sporting Goods are in talks to buy as many as 200 stores of bankrupt retailer Sports Authority, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Bids are due for the sportswear and sporting goods’ store leases on Thursday, after the firm filed for Chapter 11 protection in early March, the newspaper reported.

Sports Authority is said to have suffered due to growing online competition. It had more than 460 stores in the US.
