Sportswear sales in the UK grew 9.5% to £5.9bn in 2014 and will surpass £6bn by the end of this year, according to market research firm Key Note.
This follows a growth of 8.7% in 2013 and only 5.3% in 2012, the year of the London Olympics, The Telegraph reports.
Key Note attributed this to the women’s activewear trend and an increasing number of luxury fashion designers turning their eye to sportswear.
Large sports brands such as Under Armour and Nike have also increased their focus on female customers. Nike opened its first female-only European store in London in June.
