Children’s footwear business Start-rite Shoes has hired Val Barbour from US footwear manufacturer Wolverine Worldwide.
Barbour has joined the British label as a brand trainer. She is tasked with expanding the existing brand training team, building its relationships with Start-rite’s stockists, raising brand awareness and developing opportunities to drive in-store sales opportunities in its own stores.
At Wolverine Barbour was a field service representative for casual footwear brand Hush Puppies, and boating and deck shoe label Sebago. She oversaw the brands’ product training, visual merchandising, field marketing initiatives and events.
She took up the role when she returned to Wolverine in May. She previously held training manager and sales executive positions at the company for five years until she left in 2012. She took up a sales associate job at a womenswear boutique in Bakewell the following year.
Ian Watson, CEO of Start-rite Shoes, said: “Brand training and effective communication with our wholesale channel is vital to our success and Val will be a key part in making this happen.”
