Start-rite appoints new chief executive

Footwear brand Start-rite has appointed Ian Watson as its new chief executive to implement and deliver a long-term business plan.

Watson, who has been European managing director of German manufacturer Britax Childcare for the past eight years, will join Start-rite in February.

It follows the announcement in October that Peter Lamble is stepping down as the company’s joint chairman and chief executive after 20 years. Lamble will remain in a non-executive role on the board of Start-rite’s parent company James Southall.

Stephen Riley joined the firm’s board in November as non-executive chairman. Riley specialises in consumer brands and international development and has worked with companies including pottery and tableware manufacturer Denby, sports equipment supplier Gilbert Rugby and waterproof and windproof clothing specialist Sealskinz.
