Stephen Ayres will join Very Exclusive on 4 September

Ayres will take up the role of head of buying on 4 September. He will report into Zoe Matthews, fashion director at Shop Direct.

Ayres joined womenswear etailer Avenue 32 in 2015 from Liberty, where he was head of fashion buying and merchandising for four years.

He joined Liberty in 2008 as buying manager for menswear. He was previously a buyer at Selfridges.

It follows the news that Sarah Curran will leave her role as managing director of Very Exclusive later this year, as exclusively revealed by Drapers last month.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Wall, group ecommerce director at Shop Direct, is leaving the business after seven years this summer.

The news of Ayres’ new role comes as Avenue 32 confirmed it had closed, weeks after Drapers exclusively revealed the business was preparing to shutter.

A message on the company’s website states: “After six wonderful years, we have decided to focus on new projects and so, sadly, is now closed. Thank you for being such loyal customers.”

On 1 August Drapers revealed the business had cancelled orders for autumn 17 and was not placing orders for spring 18.
