Sunday switch-on for Oxford Street Christmas lights

Oxford Street will switch on its Christmas lights on November 1; the first time it has taken place on a Sunday.

The street’s representative New West End Company has teamed up with radio station Capital and jewellery retailer Pandora to host the launch, which will take place outside the latter’s Marble Arch flagship.

There will be 445 golden baubles hanging between the silver lights, inspired by falling snowflakes.

To mark the 56th annual switch-on, screens will live stream a concert featuring a yet-to-be-revealed line-up of UK pop stars.

Steven Medway, managing director of Trading Environment at New West End Company, said: “Oxford Street’s light switch-on is world famous and we are delighted to produce the first ever traffic-free Sunday lights switch-on moment.”

  • We can't believe it has come around so quickly! It will be interesting to see how retailers fare this season.
