Sunshine boosts high street footfall

Soaring temperatures led to an 8.1% year-on-year increase in high street footfall for the week to Sunday May 8.

Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, with temperatures reaching 27.1 degrees celsius in St James’s Park in London.

Total footfall for the week was up 4.7% compared to last year, according to Springboard. Retail parks saw an 2.5% increase in shopper numbers, while shopping centres slipped 0.3% as consumers opted for open air environments.
